Buyer FAQ: Choosing the Right Crimping Tool

Answers our engineers give most often to distributors and procurement teams sourcing crimping pliers for the first time.

Read more on our blog

What is the difference between ratchet crimping pliers and self-adjusting crimping pliers?

Ratchet crimping pliers use a full-cycle ratchet that will not release until the jaws complete the crimp, with fixed die cavities sized for specific terminal ranges — ideal for high-volume work on colour-coded insulated terminals. Self-adjusting crimping pliers automatically adapt the jaw to the conductor cross-section, so one tool covers a wide wire range (especially wire-end ferrules) without changing dies. Choose ratchet crimping pliers for standardised production, and self-adjusting crimping pliers for maintenance teams handling mixed wire sizes.

Which SIBO tool crimps MC4-type solar connectors?

The SO-2546 Pro series (SO-2546B Pro and SO-2546C Pro) is built for MC4-type photovoltaic connector contacts on 2.5, 4 and 6 mm² solar cable. The ratchet mechanism delivers a consistent crimp height — critical for low contact resistance in PV strings. Confirm the exact contact type for your connector brand with our engineers.

How do I choose a crimper for insulated, non-insulated and open-barrel terminals?

Pre-insulated (red / blue / yellow) terminals need colour-coded die cavities that compress the insulation sleeve without cracking it — see the SO-30J and SO-125 series. Non-insulated ring and spade terminals need indent dies that press the barrel into the conductor — see the SO-10 Pro. Open-barrel terminals require a B-type crimp that rolls the tabs around wire and insulation — see the SO-04BPro.

Do you offer OEM, ODM and private-label crimping tools?

Yes. As the manufacturer, we support private-label handles, logo marking, retail packaging, custom die profiles and combination crimping kits in Oxford bags. Share your terminal range and target market and our engineering team will propose a tool configuration — contact us to start.

What information should I prepare before requesting a catalog or samples?

Prepare the terminal type and brand, the wire cross-section range (mm² or AWG), expected annual volume, branding and packaging requirements, and any standards your market requires. This lets us recommend the correct die set the first time. Request our catalog to compare models.
